5th seeded Paraguayan Veronica Cepede-Royg was the first major casualty in the first round of the girls tournament of the Copa Casablanca. Cepede was outplayed by Serbian Doroteja Eric. Other seeded girls to tumble out in the first round were 11th seeded Canadian Marianne Jodoin, 12th seeded Chilean Cecilia Costa-Meligar and 14th seeded American Brooke Bolender.
Hungarian 13th seed Marton Fucsovics caused the biggest upset of the boys tournament at the Canadian Junior Open by defeating 4th seeded Japanese Shuichi Sekiguchi in straight sets. Top seeds Liang-Chi Huang and Agustin Velotti easily made it into the quarterfinals, just like 3rd seed Andrea Collarini. Girls top seeds Noppawan Lertcheewakarn and Timea Babos also reached the quarterfinals, both in straight sets.
Silvia Njiric, the 3rd seeded Croatian at the Canadian Junior Open, saw her run ended in the second round. The surprising winner of the match was unseeded German Annika Beck, who fought back after a first set loss to send the highly seeded Croatian home. In the shadow of this major upset came the defeat of 5th seeded Slovakian Jana Cepelova to American Ester Goldfeld. 7th seed Ksenia Kirillova lost to Ukrainian Elina Svitolina.
