Aussie number 1 seed Bernard Tomic saw one of his biggest rivals for the Wimbledon title, 2nd seed Tsung-Hua Yang, suffer a surprise defeat against fellow Aussie Andrew Thomas. Tomic only barely survived his match against a strong-serving Marcus Willis, but did set up a quarterfinal clash with 6th seed Henrique Cunha. The highest seed in the girls tournament, 2nd seed Arantxa Rus, continued her success with another easy victory over unseeded Hungarian Zsofia Susanyi.

Roehampton winners toppled

Both winners of the Roehampton Junior tournament found their waterloo in the second round of the Wimbledon Junior tournament. Boys winner Guillaume Rufin lost a 3-setter against local hope Daniel Evans and girls winner Melanie Oudin lost to the girl she beat in last week's final: Laura Robson, another Brit. Both top seeds in the boys tournament, Bernard Tomic and Tsung-Hua Yang made it into the third round, just like girls 2nd seed Arantxa Rus, who is now the prime favorite to take over the number 1 position from Simona Halep. Roland Garros finalist Jerzy Janowicz was surprisingly upset by Ze Zhang of China
