| Younger generation takes over at Wimbledon |

Out of the 8 players that made it through to the Wimbledon semifinals on both sides all were younger than the player they beat. The youngest player by quite a margin, Brit Laura Robson, was probably the most impressive player of them all, defeating another player that's at least 2 years older than her in straight sets. The upsets of the day came at the expense of girls 2nd seed Arantxa Rus and boys 3rd seed Cesar Ramirez. Rus lost to Belgian prodigy Tamaryn Hendler and Ramirez got ousted by 9th seed Grigor Dimitrov.
Probably the most surprising semifinalist is Fin Henri Kontinen, who defeated another surprising quarterfinalist in Dane Propoggia. After defeating 14th seed Chase Buchanan in the second round, the draw opened up for the 18-year old, who also trains at the Bollettieri Academy. Kontinen will next face the toughest test of his tournament in top seed and favorite Bernard Tomic. Tomic has stuck to his billing as pre-tournament favorite and only showed a slight falter against the sturdy but ultimately unimaginative opposition of Henrique Cunha. The second semifinal promises a spectacular match between 2 of the more promising players in Junior Tennis with 9th seed Grigor Dimitrov and Serbian Filip Krajinovic. Both players won their match against older and more experienced opponents relatively easily in straight sets. Both players never met in the past, but with their steady games and often creative play they will surely provide an interesting contest. No player as interesting a phenomenon as 14-year old Laura Robson. With another mature performance the young Brit showed why she seems to have all the weapons to make it big in the future. At 3-5 and a setpoint down, Robson found her A-game and pounded down strong serve after strong serve and combined with a steady ground game, she racked up 4 games for a 7-5 first set win. After going down early once again, Robson fought back to equal terms, only to get her first matchpoint at 5-4. Again a strong return proved decisive for the youngster, giving her a strong win over 9th seed Bojana Jovanovski. With the form and maturity that Robson has shown the road to the title seems to be clear. In tennis it never is that simple, however, since Robson will be meeting another in-form player in Romana Tabakova. Tabakova easily defeated 5th seed Polona Hercog, throwing everything but the kitchen sink at her opponent, 6-4 6-1. With a 3rd seeding the semifinal spot of Thai Noppawan Lertcheewakarn would hardly seem surprising. But only having reached the third round in the past 2 grand slams, not a lot of people would have expected Lertcheewakarn to reach this far. In her quarterfinal against strong serving Brit Naomi Broady Lertcheewakarn forged a surprising number of break points, 26 in total. But since she only converted 8 of those and Broady converted 6 out of 8, Lertcheewakarn allowed her opponent to stay close. In total Lertcheewakarn needed 5 matchpoints to finish off the match, the first 4 coming on the serve of Broady. In her semifinal Lertcheewakarn will be facing the very strong challenge of Belgian Tamaryn Hendler. With a far greater focus on developing her game for the WTA tour, this is only the first Junior tournament for Hendler this year. In that light, the Belgian has played surprisingly well, defeating two pre-tournament dark horses like Jessica Moore and Arantxa Rus in straight sets.
