Roland Garros Junior doubles decided
Tuesday, 10 June 2008
ImageThe winners for this year’s doubles tournament at the Roland Garros Juniors have been decided. Winners for the girls are Aussie Jessica Moore and Slovenian Polona Hercog, the boys title went to Finn Henri Kontinen and Indonesian Christopher Rungkat.

Moore and Hercog defeated the Dutch pairing of Arantxa Rus and Lesley Kerkhove in the final set match-tiebreak: 10-7. For the first-time pairing, it means immediate success and also a first Junior Grand Slam added to both their resume. For both players it won’t have much significance ranking-wise, because they will not surpass their career-high ranking.

Boys winners Henri Kontinen and Christopher Rungkat cannot be seen as a big surprise, because ever since their first tournament together at the Astrid Bowl, the duo hasn’t lost a single match. Final opponents Matt Reid and Jaan-Frederik Brunken were also swept aside in a very one sided contest: 6-0 6-3 . The points gained from this victory will give both players a tremendous boost for their ranking, with Kontinen possibly moving into the top 20 and Rungkat moving to the edge of that same top 20.

Final girls doubles result Roland Garros:

Polona Hercog/Jessica Moore (SLO/AUS,8) d. Arantxa Rus/Lesley Kerkhove (NED,7) 5-7 6-1 1-0(7)

Final boys doubles result Roland Garros:

Henri Kontinen/Christopher Rungkat (FIN/INA) d. Jaan-Frederik Brunken/Matt Reid (GER/AUS) 6-0 6-3
