Robson learns valuable lesson
Friday, 18 July 2008
British prodigy Laura Robson's run in the Dutch tournament of Leiden ended in the quarterfinal against 2nd seed Susanne van Hartingsveld. Robson did beat 6th seed Steffie Weterings in the second round.

The win against Weterings proved a lot tougher than Robson’s first round match against Jade Schoelink, but the 14-year old still won the match in straight sets: 6-3 6-4.

Because Robson’s match against Weterings had to be postponed last night, Robson had to play again later in the day, this time facing 2nd seed Susanne van Hartingsveld. Van Hartingsveld, who’s 26 years old, spent quite a few years attempting to make it on the senior tour, but with a career high ranking of 483, achieved on 27 October 2003, she fell well short. Van Hartingsveld is currently ranked 12th in the Dutch National rankings and has won several national Dutch tournaments.

Van Hartingsveld showed Robson that she still has a lot to learn before she is to make it on the senior tour, beating Robson 6-3 6-2 in 1 hour and 24 minutes.

Second round result Leiden:

Laura Robson (GBR) d. Steffie Weterings (NED,6) 6-3 6-4

Quarterfinal result Leiden:

Susanne van Hartingsveld (NED,2) d. Laura Robson (GBR) 6-3 6-2
