3rd seed Valeria Solovieva is now, quite suddenly, bombarded into the position of favorite. The Russian 16-year old defeated Lithuanian 6th seed Iveta Dapkute and will now face 5th seed Hesse. As  the more experienced Junior player Solovieva is deemed to be the favorite, a player that also favors hardcourts.

The semifinal between American Madison Keys and 12th seeded Norwegian Ulrikke Eikere is a very surprising one. It is a contest between a 13-year old American girl, that is quickly rising up the Junior rankings and an until recently relatively unknown Norwegian. Both have taken the hardcourts of Costa Rica like a duck to water and will be poised to get a once in a lifetime chance to win a first Grade 1-title.

In the boys tournament the influx of 16-year olds continues. The result of the tie between American Denis Kudla and Italian Matteo Civarolo is not in at this point, but a 16-year old will definitely come out of this match. American Mitchell Frank awaits the winner of this match, after upsetting 4th seed Belgian Yannik Reuter.

The semifinal contest between 7th seed David Souto of Venezuela and 5th seed Arthur de Greef of Belgium promises a lot. After slowly rising up the ranks last year, both players are now really bursting into the Junior scene, making vast strides forward in their games as well as rankings. De Greef won their only previous contest at the Junior Open Wels in Austria halfway last year, that match was on clay, however, and also very close, so cannot be considered much of an indication as to who will come out as the winner. It does indicate that both players are closely matched and will provide an interesting contest for the spectators as well as a possible insight into the future of men’s tennis.
