Swiss Sandro Ehrat and Russian Valeria Savinykh seized their opportunity to capture a Grade 1 title at the Czech Junior Indoor Championships. Ehrat battled his way through the draw and past top seeded Austrian Dominik Wirlend in the final. Savinykh defeated 14-year old German Annika Beck in her final match.
Ehrat’s first Grade 1-title, even his first Junior title, catapults the Swiss 17-year old straight into the Junior top 100 at 51st position. Runner-up Wirlend won’t see any improvement in his ranking, reaching 43rd, which does not surpass his career-high of 40. Girls winner Savinykh rushes straight into the top 20 at 19th and her 3-years younger opponent in the final, German Annika Beck, climbs to just outside the top 100 at 107.
