| Zanevska continues excellent form |
| Saturday, 21 March 2009 | |
With title of last week’s Thailand Open under her belt 4th seed Maryna Zanevska continues to grow in confidence by moving into the semifinals of the Chief Minister’s Cup. The Ukrainian 15-year old seems to be on course for another final meeting with top seeded Hungarian Timea Babos. In the boys tournament 3rd seed Dominik Schulz and 4th seed Daniel Berta seem to be in a deadlock to meet each other in the final.Firstly the semifinal match of Berta against Belgian Lauren Olivier Daxhelet seems to be an encounter that would be hard to lose for the Swedish youngster. Berta has shown some devastating form in this tournament, destroying every opponent in straight sets. His most likely opponent in the final is 3rd seeded German Dominik Schulz, who has been in equally bruising form in this tournament, with a loss of only 6 games in 3 matches. The opponent of Schulz, 5th seeded Italian Alessandro Bega, has had more difficulties with his opponents and has very little experience in the latter stage of a Grade 1-tournament. In the girls tournament top seed Timea Babos will take on one of the fast-rising players of the moment, 15-year old Chinese youngster Saisai Zheng. Zheng is on a 16-match winning streak and will definitely see her rise tested to the maximum by top seed Babos, who is also in fine form despite a loss in last week’s Thailand Open final. The experience of Babos should be enough to see her through. The second girls semifinal is an encounter between two prodigious representatives for their respective countries: Zanevska is one of the greatest talents of Ukraine, Curovic is probably the best talent that her native Serbia has. Both players never met in the past and going on recent form, both players seem to be hitting their peak. Based on previous experience in winning a title, Zanevska should have the edge in this one. Quarterfinal boys results Chief Minister’s Cup: Laurent Olivier Daxhelet (BEL) d. Maximilian Neuchrist (AUT,6) 3-1 ret. Daniel Berta (SWE,4) d.
